It is summer and we love peaches! So hop thought we would share a strawberry peach tart for those that like summer sweets without the guilt! This can be made with sugar free cream soda and jam, so there Is no sugar added!
and mix 1 3/4 cup of flour and 1/2tsp salt
add 1 cold and cubed stick of butter
add little bits of cream soda to until dough like… About 1/4 cup, usually less.
roll out and place in pan. Any pie shaped will do. Bake at 350 for about 18min or until a little golden.
remove from oven and spread favorite strawberry jam on it. Add some sliced peaches in a pretty pattern and rebake for about 6min or until bubbly.
If you look like a lizard this spring – summer 2013, then you are probably a little fashion forward. With all the new trends of florals (which we hate… it looks like old ladies in Florida) we see an emerging trend… lizards. If your clothing patterns or colors remind you of a lizard, you are good. Some are green, some have bright pops of color, etc.
I love avocados, I love spinach… so when I came across some avocado shake recipes I decided to try out some of my favorite flavors all together. Here is how it went. Enjoy!
You will need:
one ripe avocado
a handful or two of baby spinach
3/4 cup coconut milk (I used the vanilla one)
1 tablespoon of sweetned condensed milk… but you could use any sweetner or honey!
the juice of one key lime or lime
3-4 ice cubes
then start blending!
If you live in a warm climate (like us at Sonoran Chic) you can walk out into your yard and get the lime and spinach fresh! But store bought is just as good;)
Now as most foo chic experiments go, we decided to expand on delicious! Though the above recipe is muy delicioso, I wondered what it would be like with some honey greek yogurt added in… So I blended in about a 1/4-1/2 cup and then put a dollop ontop just for some flare;) It was sooo good! Enjoy!
Here we are in August already… Fall fashion is beginning to hit the stores. It is a sad time in the Sonoran desert though… Because we cannot take part in it! All I want to do is dress up in a sweater with a cute blazer over it… But I would die of heat stroke! It is still over 100degrees here! While a large part of the world is putting away their summer clothes and delighting in the fun fall fashion… We are still in bikini weather.
I would love to see some guys in corduroy and girls in wool skirts but it just ain’t gonna happen here until probably Nov or Dec… If that! To any fashion designer… Please remember us in the Sonoran desert and give us some fall fashion-feel without the layers of warmth. I will do my best to try to find some good Fall inspiration and post them on our pinterest site http://pinterest.com/sonoranchic/fashion/
Until next time… Stay cool!
Jan. 23rd is Chinese New Year! The year of the black dragon begins. If you are headed out to celebrate, wear RED! Not only will it bring you luck this year, but red is just an awesome color in the fashion world right now. Don’t forget you can always splash up your look a notch with the right accessory: check out this Michael Kors clutch.
Take your favorite peppermint or spearmint tea (or a combo) and steep. Add in hot chocolate powder and top with steamed milk. Nothing warms you up better or feels more like the holidays, than peppermint and chocolate!
Melt 2 tablespoons butter and sprinkle in coriander, cumin, and a tiny bit o cinnamon. Add onions (caramelized ones work nicely), and some garlic. Saute some chicken in the mixture and add some spicy-ness… like chili peppers! Mix curry powder into coconut milk and then pour over mixture. (medium heat then simmer until it smells really good). Serve over rice.
It is high time that my bracelet could show my twitter feed or my underwear monitor my health… don’t you agree? My bra could easily support a heart-rate monitor and there is no reason why accessories couldn’t really make statement about you by showing your facebook newsfeed or twitter feed. My watch already carries a tiny USB drive… why not add a tiny screen? How about a body-temp monitor scarf? Camera in my sunglasses? Google Latitude in shoes to track my path!? There are some clothing designers out there that are creating multi-functional clothing but it is not coming quick enough! If our phones can be a computer, camera, phone, etc… why does clothing/fashion just have to be clothing. It is time “smart clothing” becomes more mainstream!
So to any fashion designers out there looking for ideas… please email me because I have a thousand ideas of how to make clothing multi-functional or make fashion “smart”! BUT please make it fashionable… no one wants to pay a lot of money for a “smart” article of clothing if it is ugly. I am clueless on why fashion has missed out of this tech-age… but there is still time.
Imagine this Vogue dress with your picasa or facebook photo album pics real-time! Updating as you upload… how sweet would that be?!
Well it is still hot in the Sonoran Desert even though it is Sept now! And we even have monsoon like weather too. The heat and humidity is really taking it’s toll on southwest fashion. Just look around. Everyone seems to be melting. Which brings us to our point on this Labor Day weekend… it is not what you wear -but how you wear it.
If you are living in America, thank a vet and stand up tall. Be proud! Stand up straight, shoulders back and you will look and feel better. All the men and women that have served this country deserve to be thanked by someone with their head held high and not a melting blob.
Sonoran Chic will post later on in the summer as well, but here in the desert it is already reaching into the 90degree weather and so we thought we would give you a type of swimsuit fashion before you rush out and get that 2011 suit!Welcome to the “flyaway back”. The first time we saw this style on a suit was on a popular surfer beach in Australia and we wondered, why do we not see more of these around? It is the perfect suit (especially for those who might not want to show off a belly). You still get that sexy look but with a little more coverage!
